filling fell out ??

Hi everyone
I need some advice My 9 yr old daughter has a resin ( thats what her old dentist called it) in her tooth my new dentist was not impressed by it and said its gone bad underneath but as they are baby teeth all he would do was leave it for now but any further problems and he may have to consider removing the tooth. Anyway the resin fell out yesterday we are booked for another appointment with the dentist but not until nov 2nd the tooth isn't causing any problems for her but it keeps getting food stuck .
Should I bring the appointment forwards or wait until our routine appointment I know there is little he can do with this tooth for her but shes diabetic too and im worried about infections.
any advice is great as always!!

I'd phone up and ask your dentist's advice....best err on side of caution.

hi thanks brit I took her to see him at the weekend turns out the filling took part of her tooth with it when it went. The dentist said no problem he will just keep an eye on it as it looks like its about ready to fall out soon anyway and there isn't really enough tooth left to fit another filling too im just glad he didnt need to remove it my daughters got her flu jab on thursday she so wouldnt be happy if she needed that doing too !!!!

Hi Emma,
I would definitely recommend speaking with your dental professional about your daughter's treatment options - even a baby tooth should be fill-able, and it is important to keep her teeth functioning as properly as possible (even if it's not causing issues now, eating could become problematic if the filling completely erodes away).

As Emma said it's about to fall out anyway..she has already seen her dental professional who is only a phone call away should the position change. Please bear in mind that there are many differences in treatment philosophy between the USA and Europe/UK, particularly where pediatric dentistry is concerned.
Avoiding potentially traumatic dental experiences for the child unless absolutely necessary tends to be the European approach...i.e. it arguably tends to undertreatment in the best psychological interest of the child where baby teeth are concerned, whereas the USA arguably tends to overtreatment e.g. multiple stainless steel crowns.
There are pros and cons to both approaches i.m.v. and it is up to individual parents to decide for their child in consultation with their dentist, so I would have to disagree that pulling is never a good option.

A rather aggressive statement (as quoted above) should always be clarified in a professional forum. Deciduous teeth bear a significant role in the development of the jaw bone, not to mention how permanent teeth will sit in relation to surrounding teeth.
