Default i had my implants put in

hi i just thought i might tell you about my implant experience i had on tuesday.
i'll just quickly backtrack to April when i had 12 upper teeth out and had a denture
all my original teeth had bridges and crowns, and due to gum disease they had come loose and the roots were rotting in my head. no need to bore you with the details, but like everyone else here, losing my teeth was a life long dread and now, here it is for me to deal with.
After the extractions, i cried before, during and after (for weeks) i was so very ashamed and embarrassed about wearing a denture that I have not been out socially since. I have not kissed my boyfriend more than twice, and certainly not done anything else, you can guess the rest.
He said it doesn't bother him, the fact that i have a denture, but to me
I HAVE FALSE TEETH and therefore undesirable.
Anyway moving on.... i researched all the alternatives and found out about implantology, i knew my dentist did this and he said it would be about £16k.

And so i got on the internet to find someone else.
I DID find someone in plymouth and i went to see them,
I had to speak to the 'co-ordinator' first, which i wasn't happy about, i wanted to see a dentist, not a salesperson, anyway i eventually got them to do a ct scan, which the dentist did himself, and took him about 10 seconds, and didn't even look in my mouth.
So that was no good.
Back to the internet and after much reading i came across the method called an overdenture which is a denture fitted to 4 implants, rather than individual bridges or crowns. The good thing about an overdenture is that you get rid of the plate that covers the roof of your mouth, which I HATE.
And the cost is more or less reasonable.
So, one evening in Tesco I happened to bump into the nurse who assisted the dentist who took my teeth out (lovely lovely person, the nurse , i mean!)
and asked if he did this method of restoration
'of course' she said 'we charge about £5k for it'
'why didn't you tell me' i said
''we did' she said 'but you were in such a state you weren't listening'
so appointments were made and here i am today.

I wasn't scared, after all, i'd had the worst done with the 12 extractions, but boy, this was the most noisy procedure ever.
there was chipping, grinding, drilling, sqweeking(?) washing, pictures taken, people watching, hand torques, stitching. And after 4 hours i was let up.

Wednesday, due to the swelling, i looked like a space hopper, all the wrinkles, my baggy eyes, had merged into one huge fat face
Thursday my eyes were 2 tiny slits and my nose was bright purple amongst a ginornus fat upper lip. If i didn't think it would frighten anyone, i'd post a picture.
Today, friday, the swelling has gone done from my eye region to my neck. My neck looks like a tree trunk
Tell me again why i did this?
Back soon
Ronny

Well done you

Interesting 5k was just for the upper and are they large implants or the smaller ones? I'm looking at something similar but top and bottom losing the plastic in the roof of the mouth sounds perfect to me. I've been quoted around 10k for both (bit pricey I thought) but it's a */whispers* - "posh place"

Luckily I won't hear or won't remember any grinding or chopping thank heavens for IV sedation

Great Job!! and You did it so that you would feel more confident. I completely understand. I would love to get implants on top also. I did get them on the bottom although I can't use them yet. If I am financially able I will be doing the top at a later date (with a different dentist. ) I do kiss my husband but only little pecks.

I hope your swelling and bruising goes away quickly!! Keep us updated on your progress.

Ruby, where's your posh place? are you in the UK?

and yep getting rid of the plastic plate will be the utimate
my implants are 11mm long, cos the dentist kept saying to the nurse
'i'm in at 11' 'i'm in at 11'
i felt like saying hello i'm down here!!!!!

JLT why will you change dentists for the top implants? are you not happy with the one you've got? are you waiting for the bottoms to intergrate with the bone on the lowers, is that why you don't use them?
Love to know please.

I look almost normal today, except my nose feels blocked and very bruised, and i have 2 yellow lines from my chin to my cheeks, so not too bad,
I cannot believe i have NO PAIN thogreat stuff
speak soon

I'm looking at mini's they just appeal to me more 11mm sounds big to me but I know nothing hehe

No pain is grrreat! I was tempted by the Simon look too. It's odd I've started looking at teeth wondering if they'll suit me lol. Think Danni's got the best ones

I am not at all happy with the dentist who did my dentures. It is all in my diary. There is nothing wrong with the implants, I am just waiting for the healing and intergrating, etc. to be able to use them.

JLT I WILL read your diary and catch up, and Ruby I didn't realise you were having such a hard time either, I have too admit that this procedure has taken over all my manner of thinking.

Today i had my nine stitches taken out, which I hasten to add, i managed without any pain relief, in fact -thru this whole procedure I haven't had any pain at all, and believe me i am such a whimpering baby!!

still can't put in my denture as my top lip is still fat, and i haven't been out AT ALL. so glad it's nearly winter so i have an excuse to wear a scarf.
managed to gum down spagetti bolognese tonight AND a bottle of wineI so deserve it!!!!
speak soon

I think it's payback for my avoidance of all things dental for so many years that the past 2 months I've handed my life over to it

Your pain free ness gives me hope ronny that when I eventually get them out it may not be as bad as I think.

Good job with the wine!
