I have a back molar that has a filling, it is neighbor to a wisdom tooth that was impacted and removed feb 2010. I also use it as an anchor for my temporary partial. I am not sure why it is hurting so much? Is it shifting cuz of the impacted molar that was removed a year ago? or is it not happy being used as an anchor? or is it the filling leaking? The pain is the following: It started yesterday I was bending to get something from ground and I noticed a pulsating feeling under the tooth, then today I wore my temporary ok , then right now nite time now it started feeling like throbbing, and pain like when I press on the gum/jaw part. Kinda radiates up my cheek? I was hoping it was just not happy about the temporay cuz it was hurting when I first got the temporary? What u all think?:scared:

How's your sinuses, are you stuffy at all? funny taste?

my sinuses are fine its my back rt molar now it is throbbing all day today when aleve wears off. I tried pressing down on it and it hurts bad have pain in my jaw bone area too base of the molar.????

Try leaving it alone as much as possible. I think you should have it looked at, book a dentist appointment as soon as possible. If the throbbing is bothering you when you lie down to sleep, some ibuprofen or other NSAID will help, but always read the label and don't take it if you have any contraindications.

Try not to worry so much, it could be something that's easy to fix.

:)

maybe an abscess brewing under there- throbbing ususally indicates pressure of some sort.

RP is right could be the start of an abscess or at least an irreversible pulpitits. See your dentist very soon.

Thanks guys for the support I really need it bad! I had to make a small ice bag for my jaw :( My rt side of mouth/jaw is not happy.. I stopped wearing my temporary today to see if pain lessens and it didnt I even tried no aleve without the temporary to see if its something worse like absess/ infection etc. I am so frustrated with my mouth. I am waiting first thing monday morning for an appointment I hope my dentist can squeeze me in if not OMG I dont know what :( The thing that is on my mind is that oct 17th I was going to have my implant (2 posts) in lower front (plate of 4 teeth) Well now I dont know wats going on with this new problem. I thought and prayed it was just the temporary not the actual tooth (more money, more pain) Help need more advice

Molar throbbing going to dentist today

Hello everyone. I suffered all weekend with throbbing starting on thursday. My back rt molar is hurting its the only one I have left back there. I use it as an anchor for my temporary and I really dont want to lose it. It also has a filling and was traumatized during a visit to a general dentists that I stupiditly went to instead of an oral surgeon. (this was jan 2010) That dentist removed a neighboring impacted tooth behind it and left part of the root in that was really close my nerve and to this molar that is throbbing presently. I even had numbness in my lower jaw for 3 months after. I am going today and I am concerned firstly what is causing so much pain all of a sudden that is radiating up and down my jaw and behind it , hurts when I push on it and this morning having trouble opening my mouth? I have been wearing this temporary since feb 2011. I do take it off at home and then place on after so many hours, I cant put it on rt now due to throbbing and pressure and pain. I want to know what other kinds of temporaries can I wear that wont bother that back molar if it isnt abcessed or filling gone bad? What do you guys think of all this? And then also oct 17th I was suppose to have two implant posts placed in my front bottom anterior ?? So I will need this to be settled?

Forgot to ask about endodontist

If it turns out that I need root canal or my pulp is bad should I have my general dentist do the work or get a referral to an endodontist?

Re: Forgot to ask about endodontist

While there are some very talented general dentists I would consider an endodontist in general especially if it is a top molar.

Re: Molar throbbing going to dentist today

In general it is preferred to have any infections or inflammations of the tissues cleared prior to implant placement.
As to this tooth you need to see your dentist for treatment as it might be abscessed.
As to your temporary.... Isit a temporary bridge? If so it shouldn't be removable or is it a plastic partial with some teeth on it that just touches the adjacent teeth?

Hello everyone, well I went to the dentist today and had an xray done it turns out it is in the begginings of an abcess. We decided to extract the tooth due to the expense of saving it along with the fact that I was going to have it extracted after my implant anyway. My dentist will adjust my temporary to fit better. So tommorow at 10:00am it is coming out with my oral surgeon. I will let you guys know how that goes.

Hello everyone, I had the throbbing molar extracted yesterday due to an abcess and OMG IT WAS PAINFUL! I have had lots of dental work, lots of extractions impacted and regular, gigavectomy, rooting scaling, but omg this was indescribable! I thought the extraction would be normal like all my other ones until he started to inject the numbing agaent! As soon as he went in deeper I shot up in the chair and I knew at that moment this was not going to be fun at all!!!! He procedded after a while and the molar popped out fast but the after pain is killing me literally! Yesterday for the first time ever I took a vicodin and OMG I it was awful I had eaten but only a small amount and so about 30 min after I took it I got sweaty, light headed, dizzy and then threw up twice all this and my socket hurting and bleeding all over again!!! So now I still have EXTREME PAIN I have a small ziploc of ice over my cheek to numb it more! Dentists reading this is it ok if I ice my cheek for the next couple of days??? I have been told to stop icing after 24 hr after surgery??? Also what other strong pain med can I take that is strong but not real strong to make me vomit and feel so awful??? Do you think I still have major infection causing pain or is it becuz he told me he was cleaning the abcess out and I could feel the scraping of the instrument used during procedure?? I am also taking amoxicillin 500mg 3 xs a day... I am in so much pain I wouldnt wish this on noone!!! PS I have taken ibuprofen 800mg and aleve and still not enough Dentists what are your thoughts on tylenol with codiene is it as strong as vicodin? Or anyone out there what are your thoughts DESPERATE FOR HELP???:cry::cry:

I'm not a dentist and hope you have now got things sorted out re the aftercare. It sounds like the problem during the extraction was caused by infection being present interfering with the numbing agent but your oral surgeon doesn't sound to have taken any trouble to get you properly numb before diving in there.
He should have given a damn and used more advanced local anaesthetic techniques to numb the tooth or even offered you sedation rather than just inflict pain like that.

Painfree care in difficult situations is part of the reason for choosing a specialist after all. Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Hello its been since OCTOBER 10TH that I had my back rt molar removed which was abscessed. I took antibiotics as directed and was careful not to get dry socket. Well, its now DECEMBER 15TH and I started about 3 days ago feeling weird in that area. It felt alittle pressure, and then today alittle swollen and then I also noticed a little pus comes out when I press on gum area. I have no molars back there anymore so I dont know if its an infection, or if a piece of bone or root was left in there or what? I am worried I am wondering what needs to happen now I am going to try to make an appointment tommorow with the oral surgeon any advice?
