I wanted to comment on the sharing part.
If you read my thread in the support forum you will learn that I had only been to a dentist 1 time in 30 years...
I NEVER talked to ANYONE about my dental problems.. not even my fiance (been with for 7 years) who is a hygentist ... I would absolutely avoid it like the plague ... anytime teeth were ever mentioned I would get cold sweats.
I just never felt comfortable enough to talk about it .. also way to embarassed ..
even now after having extensive work done and have a really nice smile .. there are still very few people I will talk about my teeth with .. its not because im embarassed but moreso because i dont feel like answering a ton of questions.
I admit that I neglected my mouth .. I took responsibility for it and fixed it (well most of it anyways) .. thats good enough for me
My fiance though .. her and I talk VERY VERY openly about teeth now ... thats one thing im thankful for .. being able to smile in front of her and talk to her about my teeth and ask her questions about dental stuff .. its a HUGE weight lifted off my shoulders
To relate more to your situation though .. I think unfortunately its normal for people to act like that girl did when you told her about your teeth .. it seems like the norm is "everyone has perfect teeth" .. when in reality so many people suffer from bad teeth but the people with awesome smiles dont even stop to think that not everyone is as lucky as they are.
and lastly CONGRATS on getting through that first appt.
I too have an INCREDIBLE dentist and I dont think I could have done what I did without him .. I hope you end up feeling the same way once treatment gets started
