Default Anyone have bridge on upper front teeth?

I've been missing a couple of front teeth since childhood. There is not a gap because my mouth was already overcrowded and the other teeth moved to fill the space. However, the teeth are large and unsightly, not to mention a lot of decay at this point. My dentist is recommending extracting the two front teeth and putting crowns on the adjoining teeth. Has anyone ever done this before - a bridge on the upper front teeth? Were you happy with your decision? I'm wondering about several things....the longevity of the bridge considering you use your front teeth to bite...the look of the bridge, did the teeth look natural compared to the other teeth in your mouth? Does it hurt to have a temporary put in where you just had extractions? What is the process like of having the temporary bridge removed to put in the permanent bridge? Does that hurt?

My front teeth are crowned and are mine but one is part of a three-tooth bridge to replace the lateral front tooth - I have pics posted- can you tell which is the false tooth?

Were you happy with your decision?
Well look at my befores - posted in the success story section- before and after pics .....had not much of a choice.

I'm wondering about several things....the longevity of the bridge considering you use your front teeth to bite...the look of the bridge,
I've had crowns and a bridge last over 25 years.

did the teeth look natural compared to the other teeth in your mouth?
These are all porcelain- they feel very smooth- you get used to it, they become part of you.

Does it hurt to have a temporary put in where you just had extractions?
I don't think it was anymore painful or difficult recovery than any other extraction, it didn't really hit my extraction site and I didn't use it or bite on it until it was healed.

What is the process like of having the temporary bridge removed to put in the permanent bridge? Does that hurt
They drilled it right off- didn't hurt was all numbed up.

      Hope that helps.

I would recommend that you have your dentist make an impression of your teeth and then do a diagnostic wax-up of the proposed new teeth. This iscommonly done for aesthetic cases. The dentist can then duplicate the wax-up in your mouth during the temporization. This gives you a chance to see the basic shape that he isproposing to do in your mouth before itis finished.
I just finished a case for 10 teeth and I am starting another one in a month. I find that the time ittakes to do a proper wax-up is well worth it anytime a change is being made of any significance.

Comfort Dentist: Thank you for your input over the past few months. I'm having a 6 unit bridge on my upper teeth done on Sept. 22nd. It took a total of 4 dentists/consultations before I found a dentist and treatment plan that I'm comfortable with. One could say that I wasted a lot of money on these consultations, but I believe it was money well spent. A very experienced Prosthodontic dentist is doing the treatment. He is the first dentist I've seen that did a wax up (which I've yet to see, but what he is proposing is exciting and promising). The previous dentist took a mold and had the temporaries made and they looked terrible. I would highly recommend that anyone considering extensive dental work that includes aesthetics, see a specialist and not a general dentist. It's costing me (a lot) more, but in the end I expect to be happy with the look. I've come a long way in the past few months since I made the decision to fix my teeth. Already have had 4 extractions and a root canal. Now I have to find the strength to have my two front teeth pulled. If I can get through that, I'll be 99% there.

Great it sounds like you are heading the right way. In general though there is not enough specialists for everything and so there is a group of general dentists out there that are particularly excellent at certain procedures. These are dentists who have taken a strong interest in some aspectics of dentistry and are truely great at what they do.
