I have two teeth that have been hurting me off and on. One is a molar I planned to just have pulled and have the other above it looked at.

So yesterday was my appt and they had a piece of equipment break down so after a day of stressing I had to reschedule for today. They said to come in early if I could so I did.

I was there for 4 hours total. The Dentist did Xrays and thought I should get the tooth crowned and that the other was probably bothering me because of an extraction making it shift. I was hesitant and asked him more than one time if it should take the pain away that I am getting intermittently with the tooth. It had a very large filling and a crack.

So I get home and the numbness is wearing off and the whole side of my head is in flaming pain. It HURTS!

OMG I don't want to go back there and sit through this hell again. It's no fair, I just wanted to feel better.

Oooh sorry to hear that. 4 hours is a very long time even for a root canal what were they actually doing? What treatment did you agree to? Hope you feel better soon. Keep dosed up with antiinflammatories.

Oh no I wasnt in treatment for the whole time, I was waiting for most of it. He didn't do a root canal but did some work on the tooth and removed a very old filling and put a sterling crown on the tooth and lasered a bit of the gums around that tooth. It feels like the nerve is really angry. It hurts so bad and the ibuprophen isnt touching it.

It could be that it needs a root canal if the nerve won't settle. This is always a possible side effect of a crown done on a tooth with an already compromised nerve (from the previous filling).

How was an immediate crown done today? Cerec? Or have you just got the temp on, which would be best if it hasn't settled. If it is a molar you may want to get the root canal (if needed) done by a specialist endodontist (private only in UK) to give it the best chance of success. You would then wait for it to settle before doing a permanent crown.

If this doesn't work which it's looking like it's not, then I'll have to go back for an extraction. I don't have insurance for a root canal. I just want the pain to stop.

Keep taking the ibuprofen until you knock the pain down, it needs some time to settle. I had a pulp cap on a deep filling and it hurt like crazy that night- next morning all settled...... Your gum can be irritated too with the crown and laser prep- try warm salt water rinses to sooth it. If it continues to bother you, call the dentist for something stronger. Feel better.

I'm praying it lets up, it's not letting up at all yet. More ibu on the way.

Well I loaded up on ibuprophen last night, went ot bed as late as I could so I'd be tired enough to sleep through the pain and did get some sleep. The sharp pain that was radiating from the top of my head on the left side to my jaw let up and I am still having pain in the tooth. More of a pain form the cheekbone to jaw and centralized in the tooth area.

I called the office and asked them about it and the office told me that The Dentist said he didnt' see the root and believes it is fine but then I am left wondering why the toothache pain before the procedure off and on and why the sharp nerve pain last night after the procedure. I hope this pain lets up more.
