When I went for my first office visit in years last week I thought I would get a new toothbrush did alot of dentists stop doing this?

I got an oral b manual one from the hygienist last month as part of a maintenance visit- "home care kit" toothbrush, floss, sample bottle of ACT and some coupons.

He also keeps a stash in the bathroom with sample paste. I guess just in case you didn't get a chance to brush before coming in. But I heep the manual in m purse for after lunch or dinner out.

How pleasant was this office, decor and atmosphere wise? Most places do sell dental products to patients in my experience. Obviously you don't want the hard-sell though it should be more of a convenience/pro-prevention thing.

I haven't been given a toothbrush since I was a child, a lot of years ago. We also used to get lollies and badges, don't see those either. Mind you maybe a good thing that lollies aren't given.

I don't think for many of them it is worth their while to keep stock of dental products. After all, when there are such massive ranges of dental products in the supermarkets and pharmacists, then most people will buy them there cheaper. The only place where 'things are sold' I have found is at orthodontists; more specialist things like mouth guards etc.

I didn't buy mine there it was free, just a tradiional toothbrush. Dentists' offices don't usually pay for these sample prodcuts, they are given them by the local sales rep to promote as "dentist recommended"

Dental office are different than medical offices. In medicine all of those samples are given free to to Drs. while in dental office all of the toothbrushes, floss is purchased by the dentists. A couple of companies do offer a limit amount of toothpaste samples for patient use I don't sell any product in my office but I do recommend one power toothbrush and I have the same one which I had to buy.

There are sugar-free sweeties in the waiting room at my dentist, AND a stash of toothbrushes in the bathroom. And the hygienist I see always gives me a little mini toothpaste tube to carry in my handbag. I fully anticipate never having to buy another toothbrush as long as I go there for treatment!

(The only thing missing is a badge saying, "I was very brave at the dentist today" - I feel I deserve one of those).

YES !!!!!! :giggle:

Too right dreadnought, when I went for my first appointment with my new dentist last year and when I had a tooth out I wanted a badge just like a child, I earned a badge and I wanted one.

In my head I gave myself one and still do after every appointment I also award myself a gold star as well. :giggle:

After my first cleaning I got a sample tube of toothpaste, a container of floss and a manual toothbrush. I keep it all in my purse to brush my teeth on my break at work. I don't know how often they give them out.

Every dentist I've ever been to has given me a free toothbrush and floss at the end of my visit.

I used to get little tubes of toothpaste at my previous dentist, and from my new dentist I get nothing. I still prefer my new dentist, because she's nice. That's way more valuable than a small tube of toothpaste.
