      Default gum swollen

ok i went the dentist and found out i had 3 cavities.. and needed 1 onlay.. last thursday was the cavitys.. one top right rear feels good, one bottom left front side pokey tooth feels good.. left rear the dentist removed all the metal from my fillings and drilled into a cavity on the side of my tooth by the gums, and repaired it and replaced all the silver color fillings with white.. well its been 5 days now and my gum around that molar is swollen and hurts and my jaw feels sore too. i did have to get additional shot of novicane becuase it still was hurting when they drilled it.. then i went back friday to get the onlay.. that went great too.. he also adjusted the fit to my other ones since i was to numb to do it on thursay.. What i would like to know is how long is this gum going to be sore and swollen around that rear bottom molar? and my jaw still aches some too.. why do they need to take out my silver fillings and replace them with white ones?

Does the gum look red and "angry" around where it's sore, it could have been irritated a bit by the filling procedure, I'd guess it'll settle down in 2-3 days.

The jaw aching is to be expected after 2 block injections.

Dunno why they changed the fillings. Did you ask?

No i didnt ask he said it looked grey under the tooth and thought it might have a cavity so i guess he removed it and replaced it with white.. it is still tender and sore today when i poke at it with my tounge or when i touch it with my finger it burns.. it seems less swollen today though.. its not to angry looking..

Try salt water. It will shrink the swelling. Sometimes you have more pain coming out of the dentist than going in the first place. [smiley=confused.gif]

The photo shows some secondary decay under the filling.

If your gums aren't getting better by now, go back to the dentist.

maybe thats why he removed the silver ones from the back to get to the decay under it.. and then replaced them with white.. i had got these silver ones back in the early 80's late 70's
