So I have been dreading having this root canal on one of my upper central incisors for a few weeks now and the time finally came this morning to have it done.
First of all, the dentist was super nice and put my mind at ease about everything and even explained what was going to happen. He said if I feel any pain, to raise my hand and he will stop.
The needle wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be and I barely felt anything (I didn't have any numbing gel either). Even with an abscess there, the numbing went fine. The process didn't take long as all, however, I do need to go back in a few weeks to get it finished as today was just to empty out the canal and flush out the infection as best as possible.
I did need a few fillings done and he decided while I was there, he would do the ones on one side of my face first and do the others on my next visit. Honestly, the needle felt more achy (but still not bad!) on the back molar than it did on the front. It also turns out that a few other fillings I thought I needed, I don't actually need. It is just some deep staining that will be taken care of later. I am still numb though and I can't feel the right side of my face, but that will clear up soon and (touch wood) all will be fine still.
All in all, it was an easy appointment and for anyone who is nervous about it, I really wouldn't worry.
