      Default Bruxism/Grinding Questions

It seems that I have a problem with Bruxism/Grinding my teeth at night. According to my dentist this is a common problem with about 30% of the population. They suggested that I wear a mouth guard at night to protect my teeth, so I had them take a mold and ordered a custom fit one. However, I've tried wearing it a couple of times and just found it to be really uncomfortable. My spit keeps getting stuck in the guard area and gets cold and gross. Also, I'm not too crazy about the fact that this is just a band aid which won't actually solve the grinding problem. I don't want to have to wear a mouth guard every night for the rest of my life!

So I'm wondering, are there any other alternatives available? I guess nobody has found a way to stop Bruxism from occurring in the first place.

There have been reports of success with hypnosis, but not a lot. A lot of people brux when they're stressed, so stress-reduction strategies can help.

For more information than you probably want have a look on www.nti-tss.com, the NTI device is more aimed at migraine prevention and treatment than bruxism, but you'll pick up loads of info on there.
