Hi all first post to this board, came across this site while browsing online for further information with regards to what i am about to write.

I am one of these people that are petrified of the dentist, this was due to a bad experience when i was younger...that's another story!

I went to the dentist today 1st time in ages...and because i had not been for so long, my teeth are all being removed. A few of them are getting done by my dentist the rest i am being sent to a specialist to have them all taken out in a one go!

Much to my dislike, this all started because of an infection that had spread around my gums thanks to a previous dentist whom didn't do his job right and has now caught up with me in my older years...i am 27. Because of this i was advised to inform a solicitor and start procedding for compensation for the amount of pain and upset that this will cause.

I am having a few teeth out this Wednesday, and talk about being nervous lol its very hard to concentrate on anything else atm!

This is a difficult time for me as i am also expecting twins and once all my teeth have been removed i will be on a drip feeding me food, to keep my strength up for the lil ones inside me and also for myself.

Once all this is finished with i will be having dentures in place of all my missing teeth...my full mouth! I have never had dentures before and never expected receive them...has anyone else got dentures if so do you experience pain with them and are you limited to only eating certain foods since having them in...

Hi, sorry I don't really have much advice - just wanted to say you have my sympathy on so many levels - I hope things get better for you soon!

Hi there,
First of all congratulations on your little ones dont worry about them in the slightest ive been through 2 pregnancies with having huge work done on my teeth and theyre both fine so just concentrate on you.

Im 28 ( nearly 29 i feel so old now :( :-])
If you see my post on support i had 2 teeth out this week so i could have a denture fitted immediately i only have 6 teeth on it but its a big enough change for me at the moment. i cant imagine how you must be feeling about it all. many a time though ive been desperate and begged my dentist to take all mine out .

ok so how im feeling and how it went, obviously some of my gums are healed already from other teeth being removed so im not as sore as i could be , i had one tothe removed on each side ( plates on the top) the swellings sore but im on pain relief , you can take some while PG still just make sure its perscribed for you so they check which ones you can take, i had codine in the form of co-codamol with Ryan 30mgcodine and 500g paracetamol , i only took 1 at a time which was enough to be honest with your blood being buisier it tends to work better when your pregnant as your blood will be moving around more than usual.

Im gradually eating more normal food ,the first day i just had some cheesy mash and water for drinks but today ( 2 days later) im on toast for brekkie! :)
youll lisp for a while i still am but its kinda funny really especially as you know it will go back to normal eventually. the only thing im finding hard is the gagging reflex, youll probably be familiar with it from being PG anyway but once you get used to there being a plate youll hopefully settle down like i have.

oh and the plates wont fit well for the first while , mine still move with every bite but im told this stops when the swelling subsides.

It will be hard and you will probably sit like i did the other night sobbing wondering if you can get through it but just remember how nice it will be to smile and show them off after and eat what ever you like. im told you can even eat toffee's when youve settled into things !!! my gran used to enjoy loads of sticky and chewy stuff with hers so i cant wait.

oh and for cleaning your dentures my dentist has said "milton" like you use for babies bottles will sterilize the plate better and 100% remove germs plus its cheaper than the tablets you can buy and wont taste foul either. that is one thing youll find weird the smoothness of the plate and its plastic texture, i have stuck to savoury foods or strong flavours so i dont taste it as much.

good luck with it all i really hope it helps you , ill update on here soon with how im doing so keep an eye out .

shelly xxx
p.s. good luck with the babies too :) im so jelesous im so broody again and Ryans only 13weeks !
