      Default Pain during Root Canal

      Hi,

I was hoping somebody could answer my question!

I had root canal treatment today, I had an injection in the roof of my mouth & also in the side of my mouth, the the pain during the procedure brought tears to my eyes....My dentist had cleaned out the canals (that I didn't feel) but whatever he done after this was agony & now I am too scared to go back & finish the treatment. Does anybody know why I felt this? (this was the 2nd part of the treatment it also hurt on my 1st appointment) the dentist couldn't continue so now I have to go back again for it to be completed....but terrified I will feel the sharp shooting pains again! Please Help.

      Thanks

I don't know what he did, but didn't he stop and offer some more pain relief or offer some explanation when it became painful?

      Hi,

No he carried on with treatment, & he didn't understand why I was feeling pain especially as I didn't feel it when the root canal was being cleaned, I only had the shooting pains when he was doing (whatever they do) after the canal was cleaned.

      That makes me mad [smiley=frightened.gif]

If it hurts, then something needs to be done about it. Even just a bit of encouragement, or concern. You've no idea the number of phobic patients I see who tell the same story, "it was really sore and the dentist wouldn't do anything about it/told me I was imagining it/etc etc."

      Such dentists need a slap.

Give me his address and I'll come round and slap him for you

To be fair, if all the nerve is cleaned out then it shouldn't be sore again.
