Lets say I might be growing new teeth. I was wondering if this has ever happened before. Or would I be the first to grow new teeth as a adult at 27.

Hi
Where abouts in your mouth is the tooth/teeth? If your wizzies havnt come through it could be happening now, but they would be right at the back of your mouth.
The only other thing i can think of is if youve had teeth growing at an odd angle and their emerging. I had an adult tooth growing horizontally in my gum so I never lost the baby tooth. So when I had it removed (cracked it on a peanut!) the adult tooth came up...Its now fully emerged although very slightly crooked.
I imagine If youve had x-rays you could see if either of these were possible. Ive never heard of anyone growing extra teeth but perhaps a dentist could be of more help!

I have known two people in my life so it is possible but a dentist would probably have seen it on an xray. A boy that I went to elementary school with had two sets of permanent teeth in the front so I remember him having the originals taken out so the second set could come in. I thought that was the strangest thing I ever heard of and wouldn't have believed it had I not known him. Then a friend I went to uni with found out that he had almost a full set of extra teeth on the top. His dentist called them wisdom teeth except there were front teeth as well as molars. I think he had 10 wisdom teeth. The medical decision was to leave them there unless they began to pose a problem. I don't know if he ever ended up having surgery to remove them.

I felt a sharp lump behind my back lower molar once and wondered it I could have regrown my pulled wisdom tooth or if it wasn't fully removed but it ended up being a bone shard or something. Perhaps this could be the case for you?

I wish it was just a bone. Nope its a whole new tooth under the old one. Right now its pushing the old one to one side as it grows. So the old one is side ways. I am thinking I might need the old one pulled if it gets worse. I know I regrew my front tooth once too. Same situation before. At least I am not completely alone on this. Thanks for your help on this one.

 I did or so said the evil dentist who did my wisdom teeth extraction. Supposedly, I had two very tiny teeth growing back in, I don't remember where now but they were and went along with my 4 wisdoms. From other replies, I guess it can happen. Awhile back I remember someone saying we ought to just come equipped with one (perfectly healthy) set of teeth period the end. If only!

You can have extra teeth, most people have 8 on each side, but I've seen 10 once. Most likely thing is a very late eruption of a permanent tooth, that's quite common believe it or not.

The "Second row of permanent teeth" thing is just a myth, the teeth can look like this, but it's just gross overcrowding, usually extractions and ortho sorts it out.

My friend that I said had the second set didn't have any crowding...his teeth are quite straight. He just has "wisdom teeth" growing above the teeth we see. He said his dentist had never seen anything like it or heard of anyone with so many extra teeth but he really did have them. He had to see a specialist for them to determine whether it was safer to leave them or take them out and I remember him going to the appointments so I'm certain he wasn't just telling tall tales over drinks.

The front tooth was funny because the song if I only had my 2 front teeth. So some people assumed I was a kid.

It is not suppose to happen, but didn't your dentist did not notice it the first time he/she took the x-ray to see if you have extra teeth? My dentist does a full mouth x-ray every year to check the full mouth and see how it is going. Now, I'm hoping that it does not happen to me. I never had extra teeth growing back in. Just had my wisdom teeth remove couples months ago and I'm hoping that it won't grow back in (I'm sure it won't).

I had braces for more than two years and after removing braces I got an extra tooth on the upper tooth backside. It was after two years of removing the braces. I'm 31 :)
