Default Scaling

Hello,

Today I went to the dentist for xrays , cleaning & checkup. Got the xrays. The dentist came in and said I have no cavities. I thought I was going to have my teeth cleaned next, NOPE. She then stated that I needed to have all my rear teeth upper & lower scaled, for a tune of $800-1000. Then she stated she would NOT do a cleaning until i had this proceedure done. Is thus standard practice? I do not understand why they couldn't have cleaned my teeth still?

TIA

Lisa

Default Re: Scaling

Scaling generally refers to cleaning of the teeth so I'm a bit confused.

Could be scamming you or trying to max out your insurance if you are in USA....there is a distinction between cleaning and deep cleaning as explained here:

http://www.dentalfearcentral.org/deep_cleaning.html

Do you reckon you need a deep clean which does tend to be quite costly but as I see it it is your choice to be convinced and to consent , not for her to insist.
