Hi There

I had a very traumatic extraction in March. The tooth broke during extraction and I ended up with a partially dry socket. All of that pain seems to have subsided, but I am left with the adjacent tooth ( upper wisdom tooth left side) still quite sensitive to cold 10 months later. Is this normal? There has been some improvement, and the tooth has been x-rayed again and isn't damaged or decayed. Apparently it may be because some part of the tooth is now exposed that wasn't before or bone loss? I am worried about nerve damage or trigeminal neuralgia

It's fairly common after an extraction for a neighbour tooth to become sensitive to cold/sweet. This is because some root surface has become exposed due to reshaping of the socket. It should settle down in time but you can help it along by using some sensitive tooth toothpaste, rub some into the sensitive area with a finger last thing at bedtime and leave it there, don't rinse or eat anything.

Thank you. Yes, I'd heard that but 10 months seems like a very long time. It is better than it was but still can't tolerate very cold things
