You forced him to take a tooth you felt was healthy? I don’t understand and now I’m lost. I doesn’t seem like from what your saying he was going to extract it? Doesn’t seem right. I would hope no dentist would just extract a tooth that was healthy just because a patient said to. You are against a dental implant due to the screws they would place in your jaw? But with these tad braces that’s exactly what they would be doing? I really think you should try and talk to someone with a bit more knowledge in what’s going on before you proceed you “hole” will not get bigger and definitely not in a short time. If anything mine closed up over the course of 3-4 months it has to heal and the hole will fill in. I understand you want things done ASAP but I truly would make anymore quick decisions that you may later regret without getting as much info as possible for each option. Maybe a root canal wasn’t an option. It wasn’t for me the infection I guess was just too bad I think. Maybe that was what happened to you too

Do not worry about spelling at all (I myself struggle with spelling even in the most peaceful and happy state..)

I know fears do not get less just from being told to, but gaps do not get bigger - on the contrary, if you would let the hole as it is, the teeth next to it would try to 'lay down' a bit to close it (which would take a really really long time).

How is your second molar doing and were you able to get at least a bit of sleep and some food since yesterday?

Jupiter,

I know it seems like you have to make a decision right now about the braces, but in all honesty, you probably have at least a few weeks. If I were you, I would get a second opinion. See an oral surgeon, or a cosmetic dentist, whether in Korea, or in Paris, or anywhere. There are other options that don't involve implants or braces. One of the other members of this forum had a flexible partial that barely shows up. It fits between the teeth, covering the hole, and doesn't impact the teeth on either side.
I am going to tag her so she can respond. @Judythecat

I am assuming you did not get bone grafting done. When I lost a molar, I had bone grafting done, even though at the time I was not sure if I would get an implant or not. It promotes bone growth to preserve the shape of your jaw. It isn't always necessary, depending on how much bone you already have. It basically just involves packing the extraction site with bone grafting particles. You can still get that done, if you want.

The hole will not grow bigger. It will actually shrink, and if anything the teeth behind will move closer, closing the gap a little, or stay where they are.

Like I said before, I have been through this as well. I am 39, and wasn't expecting to lose molars at this stage either, especially with healthy teeth to start with. You may want to look into seeing your primary doctor to ask about short term antidepressants. It really did help me. I was in a bad place before, and felt like I had no way out. If anything, don't make a permanent decision while you are so fresh from the extraction without talking to other specialists. You already regret losing the tooth...you don't want to regret another decision as well.

I wish you the best, and I hope you can find a solution you are okay with. I know how hard it is to be so upset over something and have your family/friends tell you it isn't that big a deal. My husband does not understand why I am so upset over my teeth issues. He says just to pull the front tooth and get an implant. Not so easy as that.

Do you have the possibility to get any support now? You need to eat and sleep and catch a breath before being able to do any decision and committing to any treatment at all. Do you have access to a mental health professional in Korea right now? Can you call the Samaritans or send them an email?

the tooth chipped 2 months ago....
then i got abscess..
my face swelled like a bollon...
i was scsred of it travelling to my brain...
had it removed...
even thougnt dentist saidna root canal will solve the problem just fine..

so to begin with im angry with MYSELF for not getting the root canal done and secondly getting my tooth extracted with a random dentist not even oral surgeon...

i just HOPE AND PRAY...he dint leave abscess or dint reck my sinus...

guys i allll honesty i just cant over the memory of seeing my healthy tooth on the table... it breaks my heart and it shattered my soul....

i feel like if i got into car accident i wouldnt feel this bad bcoz its sthng ot of my control...

but mind u i went to the dentist then he sent me away with antibiotics so i had ample time to think, a month, still all i was seeing online is root canals are bad for u this that.... then my face ballooned and i felt like im gonna die .. and im a dentist virgin i never had a crown filling root canal nthng.,. i just had braces... so for me i was scared and i took a deicison under pain infljence..., i HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING I REGREED IN MY LIFE,.. EVER... THIS IS REALLY THE TOOTH THAT WILL CHANGE MY LIFE...

ILL EITHER LIVE TO TELL A HAPPY STORY OR IM GONNA COMMIT SUICIDE

We sadly cannot change the past, not a second of it, but we can certainly change the way how we feel about things, which makes it more likely to find a solution. Please take a look here, that's our page for people who go through a crisis. I got your resistance to get help in this way and accept that, but it would be irresponsible not to give you the page and not to ask you to get help. Everyone going through a period of intense stress needs mental help and feeling suicidal is a scary place to be and something nobody should ignore.

Hi Jupiter,

I am sorry to hear you are so distressed. You have had a lot of kind and helpful advice, but I think you need to think more rationally and try to get some perspective. You keep mentioning cancer in your posts. A friend of ours has terminal cancer, which spread to her brain from her breast - she is 42 with two young children, and would give anything to be worrying about a missing tooth. The dentist acted to respect your wishes by extracting the tooth, and removing your pre-molars as a child is very common and not at all unethical - I too had four removed for orthodontic reasons when I was a little bit older than eight.

You have lots of options to replace the missing tooth. As @MountainMama mentioned, I have a flexible partial denture which replaces a lower molar. It is tiny, invisible, and easy to wear. I can eat no problem. Prior to that, I actually had the gap for quite a number of years, and no-one ever noticed - my face definitely did not sag. I am not a model (in fact I am a teacher, another untrustworthy person!) but I am attractive, intelligent, kind, and funny - losing the tooth did not change that or define me.

I hope that you can seek immediate help to gain some mental clarity, and in the longer term can find a solution that works for you.

All the best.

Everyone here is trying to help you but honestly I don’t think anything anyone says is going to change your mind or even make an impact until you come to terms with the past and think positive for the future. Losing a tooth was my biggest fear in life. Never a root canal, cap, braces nothing! And only one Tiny filling in the back in 50 years was all I’ve ever had done. I felt the same way just waiting for all the rest to fall out. They haven’t. I just wonder though, how many models , actors, actresses, ect out there have missing teeth and are still modeing, acting, Ect. I mean there are a lot of actors and models out there in the world. I can’t imagine that none of there ever had/has a dental issues or lost a tooth. I lost a cousin to suicide he thought losing a girlfriend at 18 was the end of the world for him. He’s missed so much in life. And is missed so much. Not just that he’s gone, it devastated the family makes us feel like somehow we failed him the family has never been the same nor will it be. He’s been gone over 15 years and that feeling of loss and failure from the people who loved him is still there. With Suicide it destroys everyone, loved ones , family, friends everyone they left behind permanently.
