So long time sufferer of Dental phobia (though more of a thing now in my adult life). In January I had a root canal on one of my molars (Number 30). There isn't much tooth there. The Root canal itself wasn't that terrible. I had nitrous and was given a pill as well and I really don't remember much. Other than when they started on the tooth, I felt it and they had to give me more numbing. But I don't remember much about that day at all. The rough part was when I went back to my dentist to put on the perm crown and they didn't numb me because the "tooth was supposed to be dead" and It was sharp and painful. I waiting another two weeks and they numbed me and it was placed with no incident. The tooth was VERY sensitive and still hurt for a while, but little by little got better, calmed down and was able to chew on it again and temp sensitivity was pretty much gone. Until Monday of this week. I was at a coffee shop with my husband and I drank my first sip of hot coffee and the tooth lit up. It wasn't terrible pain, but it was an ache that I remember from before. I thought it was a fluke, because the tooth had been fine. I also ate some pretzels and crunching on that side caused pain as well. I am under a lot of pressure at work and I am a very bad tooth grinder, jaw clencher in my sleep. I also wear a C-pap which makes this worse. I had been without my c-pap for a bit because it irritated the tooth and my sinus ,and went back on it the night before the coffee incident. Also, I started wearing my mouth guard yesterday. It seemed to be better, but this morning I made a cup of coffee at work and drank it, and the heat made a really deep dull ache in my jaw. My jaw at the joint and up and down have been sore all week, unless I'm on ibuprofen. I called and made an appt to go back to my Endodontist on Tuesday, to do a wellness check on the tooth, but I'm scared it might be infected or cracked or something and I have to go through all this root canal stuff again. I guess I would like to reassurance that it might indeed just be that I irritated the tooth by my grinding and hopefully it will improve, but though the Root canal was not a huge problem with the sedation, I still don't want to have to go through all that and the expense again. I thought this was in my past. It's messing with my nerves! I am happy that I was able to make myself call the doctor. I'm hoping an X-ray will tell me that all is well. But It has been causing me no end of additional stress.
