Hi,

On Tuesday I had 2 x upper molars extracted under gas and air due to having a severe dental phobia.
I had been putting this procedure off for around 2 years. I've been so careful and cautious to try and avoid dry socket.

The dentist removed the teeth and put some stitches in. Yesterday, 48hrs after extraction the swelling and pain was quite bad. I was taking cocodamol and ibuprofen every 4hrs like clockwork. Last night the pain seemed to ease off a little.

Today, I had such a fright. I woke up this morning, sat up and felt something in my mouth (not attached to the extraction site, it was loose) I removed it from my mouth and it looked like a blood clot. I started panicking and then felt something else moving around in my mouth, this was like a bigger piece of bloody tissue like substance. I totally freaked out and phoned the dentist for advice as soon as they opened and spoke to the dental nurse who was there assisting with my extraction. She said they packed the site with gauze to reduce bleeding and it sounds like the gauze has came out, which is apparently completely normal.

I still have visible swelling to my cheek and a little pain but the pain seems to have decreased since yesterday. I have been rinsing regularly with warm salty water.

Does this sound normal? I am so paranoid about getting dry socket/infection!

I have a picture of what came out of my mouth but didn't want to post it as it's quite graphic.

It's fine. You're well past the dry socket stage. Well done on getting the extractions sorted.

@Gordon Amazing, thank you so much for getting back to me and providing well needed reassurance!
