I have already posted a thread about this, but I wanted to ask the dentists too. My gums are red and swollen, and there is a lot of blood when I brush my teeth. My bottom gum is very low. My teeth are yellow and look very long. None of my teeth are loose. As none of my teeth are loose, can this problem be fixed if I get treated now ?. I'm so worried. I don't want to eat or drink anything and I cant sleep. Also, do you know how I can find a nice, caring dentist who understands dental phobia and anxiety ?. The last dentist I went to didn't make me feel comfortable.

If it can be fixed, can I ask the dentist to show me how to brush them properly, and ask them to recommend a toothpaste and mouthwash ?. I think I will only be able to get an appointment next week. I'm not sure if the yare open on Saturdays. I did search on google for a dentist who deals with dental phobia and anxiety, but couldn't find any in my hometown. There are a couple in other areas, but both of them are 40 minutes away.

Treating the gum disease will stop the disease. The teeth will stay long (meaning, the gum will not elevate itself after treatment) but the gum;s disease will not deteriorate.

It is very important to learn how to clean well the teeth at home (and to do so :)). Not only the brushing but also between the teeth.

I don't think that only dentists who advertise themselves as specialists for phobic patients are the only ones who can do so. What you need is a caring dentist who will treat you according to your needs and concerns. It is not easy to find the right dentist for that (you can have many great tips in this website) but not necessarily a "specialist". By the way, if you are living in the US, a dentist who advertise him/her self as a specialist for phobic people uses sedation. I don't recommend this approach.

Thank you very much for your reply. I also wanted to ask if I will need a gum graft ?. Obviously, I don't know how deep the pockets in my gums are yet. I read that 1-4 mm means that it is gingivitis or an early stage of periodontal disease, and 5 mm or more is advanced periodontal disease. Is that right ?. As my teeth aren't loose, I am wondering if it is either gingivitis, or an early stage of periodontal disease. I hope it isn't advanced. My bottom gum looks lower than the top one does.

I am from the UK, and I am entitled to free dental treatment as I am on Jobseeker's Allowance, but I'm not sure if the specialist dentist will be able to give me free treatment. I will ask them.

The main purpose of the periodontal therapy is to allow stable teeth. If the mouth is thoroughly cleaned, the gum disease will not advance anymore and the tooth is stable, most likely a periodontal surgery is not needed.

Thank you. I feel relieved that I might not need to have a gum graft as my teeth are stable. Would I not need to have a gum graft even if my gums have receded to 5 mm or more?. As my teeth are stable, I'm not sure how far they have receded. I hope it isn't more than 4mm. I'm still worried in case they need to extract some teeth. It looks like the enamel has gone from some of my front teeth. Is there anything the dentist can do about that ?. After the dentist has cleaned your teeth and gums, what do the gums look like ?. Are they still low but they don't look swollen ?. Are they straighter and pink ?.

I've read some threads here where people have said that they have had to have most of their teeth removed, or all of them. What would cause that to happen ?.

I've noticed there a lump under my bottom gum in the red area (I'm not sure what that area is called. If you pull your bottom lip forwards, you can see that area. ). What could it be ?. Also, my tongue is green and there are red lines at the back of my throat. I am so worried. I am 30 years old, and I have never smoked.
