Sorry to be seeking reassurance again so soon. I have an infection in an RCT tooth. I posted yesterday about the dentist injecting dye but when I got there he didn’t need to as the infection was clearly over the UL4 this time. The abscess has just burst, blood and pus, really revolting. Am I okay to just not do anything? I am on amoxicillin for the infection, day 3 of 5 day course. Do I need to do anything to clean it? Been referred to the endo specialist now so hoping it can be treated again soon as it’s a long running saga and has given me so much anxiety ? I have a prescription for metronidazole, my dentist said to only take that if I am in severe pain after 3 days on the amoxicillin, I am in minimal pain so am I doing the right thing just having the amoxicillin or now it’s burst should I have the metronidazole too?
Thank you.

I’m not sure about the answers to your questions, but I wanted to offer my support! I hope you continue to remain free from pain & that the endodontist can resolve your issue fully. ?

You should rinse out with some warm salty water every few hours for a day or two to draw out as much crap as you can. No need for the metronidazole at the moment, it can cause a bit of an upset stomach so best avoided if not really needed.

Thank you - again! It has felt okay today. The lump seems to be building back up again but I have no pain at the moment so just hope the endo appt is soon.

Yeah, it'll tend to do that, once the pressure builds up again it'll probably burst, don't worry about it.
