Hi.
A couple of years ago now, I was told that I needed 2 extractions. I didn't follow this up.
I have upper left molar that was filled, filling fell out years ago, over time three sides have completely broken off and I am only left with the front face. I have had a few abscesses on the gum which I self treat with salt water, the last time was over a year ago. The gum has now shrunk back and most of the root is showing to the front. This tooth is now quite loose, there is no pain unless I use it to chew, which moves it into an uncomfortable position, at times it feels like it has "dropped" and I am unable to close my teeth together at all.
First question is will this tooth eventually fall out on its own? It feels like the gum has grown over where the missing parts of the tooth once were, but there is a tiny point of tooth there ( really small like a bit of ground peppercorn)
The other tooth in question is bottom right molar, furthest back.
Again, this had a huge filling that came out, leaving very thin "sides" one of the sides ( next to the next tooth) has also broken off, so I'm left with a three sided deep " bowl". This tooth feels like the gum around it is bruised, constant pain for at least 3 weeks and I'm unable to use it for chewing. I'm wondering if this could be another abscess, so have started salt water treatment to see if this will aid drainage.
Second question is.. will the nerve eventually die off and the pain will go like the first tooth seems to have done.
The pain is the type that keeps you awake and you want to bang your head on the wall.
I am taking naproxen and paracetamol daily.
Thankyou for reading

Maybe, it's not common but you might get lucky.

The nerve has already died, that's why you've got an abscess. If the abscess manages to drain then the pain will decrease. If it's a fairly un-aggressive bacteria that's colonising the abscess then the pain will probably decrease as your immune system deals with it. If it doesn't and it isn't then it will not improve.
