Hello everyone

1 Week ago I had a very deep filling in an upper wisdom tooth. The tooth had previously been filled with a composite but it broke and there was a lot of decay. I had no pain.

Dentist wanted to get rid of all the decay and do a composite but I was bleeding so much due to needing to dig under my gums to remove decay that she just did a cement glass type filling can't remember the name. Also a calcium liner.

So the tooth hurt alot in the days after and still on and off and I hAve referred pain and she said that if it doesn't settle it'll need eextraction as root canal not option but then told me about all the things that could go wrong. 3 things....

1 the tooth causes a hole into sinus requiring me to be referred, 2 the root goes into sinus requiring surgery... 3 the tooth crumbles and she can't get it all out and will refer me on...

So my question is that is there a chance my tooth will settle and what can I do to help that if its irritating the nerve ?

I know if it needs extraction then it could also go fine but she really put me on the spot and I said I'd need think about it.

I'm next due in late March so have most of the month to wait and see and try help it along.

Thanks

Sorry meant to add one of my pain triggers is eating even at the opposite side. The pain then starts within maybe half an hour and I eat lukewarm things now. The pain actually feels like it's in my jaw/ down that side of my neck too so it nerve pain I guess ?

Sorry me again to add that talking and things are also a trigger for it. So its coming and going discomfort. Sometimes feels like I've a sore throat on that side when the pain is here for whatever time... a couple hours it lasts sometimes.

1) Nah, not a wisdom tooth, they're usually well behind the lower part of the sinus
2) Nah, most sinus perforations heal up spontaneously without any further treatment. If it's spotted at the time of extraction a quick suture will sort it
3) If...

There's always a chance :-)
Nothing you can do will make any difference whatever.

@Gordon thanks. That's really helpful. Dentist knows I'm an anxious patient. I guess I was a bit surprised to hear all that right before the extraction and asked if I want to wait and so here I am... waiting lol.
