Hi
I had a tooth infection had two rounds of anti biotics it’s settled now I’m awaiting the tooth out it’s an upper back molar . I have a lump near the tooth on my gum now on the roof of my mouth near the tooth it’s not painful but I no it’s there . Can anyone please advise 🙏🙏

Hi, can you let us know what the question is?

Hi yes the lump could it be an abscess above the infected tooth

Sorry, been on Grandpa duty all weekend.

Yes, it's probably the abscess. It'll go away when the tooth comes out. Nothing to worry about.

Why has it left the tooth ? Still got it tooth still in appointment got moved. Lump don’t hurt

The infection will track through the tissues to find the path of least resistance to the outside world. It can be a few cm away from the original source in extreme cases.

Thanks for your reply Gordon .
How long can it be left like that ? It dosent hurt, and when the tooth is removed what happens to the lump ?
Thanks

There's no way of knowing how long it can be left like that. In theory as long as the infection is draining out then it can stay like that for ages, but it's a bit of a ticking bomb, it could flare up at the most inconvenient time possible, e.g. Xmas morning. Ideally you want it dealt with at your convenience, not the tooth's :-)

The lump will go away when the source of the infection, the tooth, is removed.
