Need upper denture. Bridge is loose and with decay and movement. Eating is a real challenge, and weight loss is a real problem. Afraid of IV or general anesthesia. Afraid of post-extraction pain following extraction of remaining 12 bad upper teeth (live alone with no support system). Appreciate advice from other elderly persons that have undergone the denture process under Novocain or local anesthesia with minimal aftereffects. Thanks.

2 years ago I had 14 extractions for dentures with local only. I had a horrible phobia of the dentist and more so the injections. He gave me medication to take to relax me before I got there and then took another when I arrived. I had 12-15 injections and did not feel any of them. It took 45 minutes from the time I entered the office to when I walked in my house. Felt nothing!! No pain during recovery either. I’m not sure why but I do know I had an awesome dentist. The weeks preparing for the extractions was 1000 times worse than the procedure. You can do this!! Make sure your dentist knows of your fears. Keep your eyes closed the entire time. That way you don’t see what’s coming. You don’t need to know because it may freak you out. I also took music to blast during the procedure so I didn’t hear any conversation or anything else. Have a signal your dentist knows in case you want to take a break. When are you having this done? Please keep me posted. And know that if I can do it so can you!!!! Good luck.
