Hello all. I need some advice on a new and worsening issue I am having. I have never had great dental health. Last year, I finally got established at a great dentist who worked out a long-term plan to address my many issues. I have previously had 4 lower molars extracted, at least 6 root canals and most recently a crown. Two of my teeth have fractured and broken off in pieces while eating due to large fillings failing (old fillings from when I was younger). I have now developed a very severe anxiety of eating anything for fear my teeth are going to continue to break. I am constantly feeling my teeth for chips or breaks, and I sometimes find myself looking through chewed food if I feel something hard in it. I am still seeing my dentist to continue treatment, but I don't know how to get over this anxiety. I had the crown put on in January and still can't make myself chew on that side in case I mess it up somehow. Does anyone else ever feel this way or have any suggestions? TYIA!

I am dealing with the same anxiety (for different reasons). I developed a severe anxiety about chewing after having my four wisdom teeth removed. I thought I would get back to normal after having them removed but I still have yet to chew any food (I had them removed back in May…) I’ve been on a “soft food diet” for almost a year now. My mouth (mostly my gums) are so uncomfortable that when I even attempt to chew anything I immediately stop because it’s uncomfortable. I understand the struggle.
