Am I Being Quoted a Fair Price?

Hello All,
I visited a local dentist in the Houston area and I was quoted $4,500 for ceramic braces on my top teeth only and an approximately 14 month treatment plan plus free whitening. Does this sound like a fair price?
Additionally, I was somewhat concerned when I wrote "self" under the employment column of the new patient questionnaire and the Dr. asked me about what kind of law I practiced (apparently the office called my work # just prior to the Dentist coming into see me).

My advice? Shop around.

Sounds higher than average for limited treatment. While my office doesn't call patient's places of business to check them out some do as they like to know who they are dealing with as patients. I think it isn't helpful to know a person's detailed business.
