I feel it is worth mentioning in this section in the hope it will both help others seeking in this area and give inspiration to other hygienists who might learn something useful.

After 30 years (1986) since seeing a hygienist (as my last experience was so awful and bloody) I recently took the plunge and decided to risk seeing one at my local practice in Ely.

Her name is Cara Mitchell and she is an absolute angel. What a difference to the nasty dragons of the eighties! Cara is in fact a "dental therapist", which means that besides hygiene, she can also do a few dental procedures and moreover is very specialised at looking after special needs and phobia/trauma cases such as mine. Her technique is very gentle caring and indulgent, and there was no bossiness or nasty lecturing at anytime whatsoever. All practitioners should be like this! I cannot recommend this person or indeed the entire practice highly enough; the facilities are spotless and comfortable, all staff really kind and attentive, and the equipment very modern and pleasant and largely quiet in use. The polishing brush used in this instance was lovely and quiet and gentle; a lovely massage experience all round. Yes, seeing a hygienist can actually be enjoyable (believe it or not)!!!!!!

Sorry folks - I omitted the practice at which this amazing lady is based; it is "Enhance Dental Spa" in Ely, Cambridgeshire UK. Their phone number (in UK) is (01353) 666895. The website is www.enhancedentalspa.co.uk

Details with pictures of Cara and all the other staff can be found in the "Meet The Team" heading on their homepage.
