Antidepressants and dental surgery with IV anesthesia?

My daughter has surgery scheduled first thing Monday morning to get all her (impacted) wisdom teeth removed.
She was recently put on Paxil for anxiety and depression. She just asked me if her medication was going to affect the anesthesia or the surgery. It didn’t occur to me and she wasn’t taking it at the time of the consult. It is too late to ask the doctor now as everything is closed until Monday.

Anyone have an answer? Google gave me mixed answers. It sounds like it can affect the way the anesthesia reacts and cause complications with bleeding. She just got bumped to 20 mg a day, and she is wondering if she should drop back to 10 mg again until after the surgery. It is still a fairly low dosage.
We will bring it up at her appointment but was hoping someone has experience with this.

Can't answer without knowing what anaesthetic drugs your daughter will be getting... I wouldn't mess about with the doses, I doubt if it'll make any difference, but just be sure to let the treating doc know before hand... which obviously you will do :)

Thank you. They didn’t say what it was, just that it was IV sedation. I had her take her regular dose last night and we will let the surgeon know when we get there. I can’t believe I didn’t think to call and let them know when she started taking them.

How did it go?

We just got back. It went great! My daughter was more worried about the IV than the surgery so once that was in, she relaxed. I was more anxious than she was about the surgery, but I did a great job hiding that from her so she didn’t get anxious.
The surgeon said everything was perfect! They had been concerned because one of the top wisdom teeth was in her sinus partially but the surgeon said there were no complications.
My daughter is home and sleeping now. I am having to sneak in and take the ice packs off/on every 20 minutes or so.

Great to hear, well done for keeping your nerves hidden :)

It was hard. I am proud of the fact that she doesn’t have the fears I do and want to keep it that way!

Her poor face is so swollen today but she is still doing well. The numbness lasted almost 12 hours! She was freaked out last night because one side was still numb and she said she couldn’t taste on that side. This morning it is all fine, just super swollen.

Ice packs are your friends :)
