After many years of neglect and fear keeping me away from the dentist I’d had enough of not smiling not eating properly ect so decided to go which ended up having my remaining upper teeth removed and an immediate denture fitted five days later look like I’ve been in the ring with Tyson fury black eye bruised jaw and hard swollen lump in my face I’m trying very hard not to panic so I’ve turned to this forum to see if anyone else has had anything similar

Hello
I can definitely relate to your story. I had 5 teeth pulled in one visit and afterwards had some bruising and soreness. And when I looked in the mirror had an anxiety attack.

Dentists don't properly explain the emotional and psychological impact of having teeth pulled. They just see it as a medical necessity. Nor do they explain how hard it is to get used to wearing dentures.

It's definitely normal to feel anxious after any surgery. Having your natural teeth pulled and adjusting to having a piece of plastic in your mouth all the time can be traumatic.

Hope that helps. Hang in there!

Thankyou Matt it really has felt like Im going through a trauma and you’re right the psychological effects are massive I knew I would have pain and discomfort but honestly I look like I’ve been mugged and I feel so sad have to go back to the dentist tomorrow for her to see how I’m doing that will be interesting 🤔
