Are antibiotics necessary with deep cleaning?

I'm getting a deep cleaning on Thursday and the treatment plan calls for the usage of oral antibiotic liquid. It is very expensive ($250 per quadrant) and I'm wondering if that is not just something I can do at home.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Research has shown a small benefit with certain types of antibiotics in conjunction with a deep cleaning. For most people, I don't think it is worthwhile especially as compared to the cost. Most early to moderate cases of gum disease will respond just fine with a deep cleaning as long as you do your part afterwards (excellent home care).
