I am so scared! I have atypical facial pain from seriously botched dental work on both sides of my face all within a 6 month period. I have lost every back molar and the premolars on the left. I only have 9 teeth left on the top and 9 on the bottom.

I am now with a private dentist who is very skilled at what he does but doesn't really know much about AFP but then most people don't.
The premolars on the right are what I eat with. The top one has crown prep in a few days and I am so scared that it is going to set off my nerves because the tooth is not going to be root canaled. The AFP makes my teeth feel like they are open nerves and that is why my prior dentist pulled them all out. That pain coming back and being permanent from a tooth drilled down isn't something I can bare.

So sorry you are dealing with AFP. I have it also, so I understand. I lost three molars before it was diagnosed and I cringe at the thought of a dental cleaning because that can set it off.
I can empathize with you. I am getting a filling redone next week in a painful tooth. Dentist says filling is loose causing the pain. I am terrified of it setting off the nerve pain.

@MountainMama thank you. It’s awful to have. I’ve lost 12 teeth to it before I moved dentist after that one refused X-rays and a full examination when I asked.

I have so many other issues that came before this which just makes this cruel.
Have endometriosis; 2 7cm cysts on my one remaining ovary as I had a hysterectomy at 33 for adenomyosis:

I have interstitial cystitis which feels like a uti all the time which is hell.

I have spinal stenosis.. I’m one jolt away from spinal surgery.

I though things couldn’t get much worse then wham.. afp.

I’m on medication. I had the crown prep yesterday and so far so good but the tooth on the other side… premolar the furthest back I have is struggling with major sensitivity to the point a root canal is an option. I have to decide that on my own. Fun!!

@Getoutmymouth oh goodness you have been through the wringer! I was just diagnosed with adenomyosis last year but I can’t afford a hysterectomy on my insurance right now, nor can I afford to take off work for recovery. I am hoping to hold off a few more years.
I hope the crown holds and the other tooth settles down. The one I am getting the filling redone in has that sensitivity. It has hurt for several years but I kept thinking it was the AFP because the pain would come and go. Recently it started hurting on biting and being super sensitive.

I reckon I was evil in a previous life! I’m sorry you have adenomyosis too, it’s tough but getting a diagnosis is helpful as that can go round and round in circles.. Are you in USA?

The crown tooth feels fine and it’s been over 24 hours now.
The big things seem to be okay but the little things set mine off.

Really wondering if i did the right thing saying I want to keep the left tooth.. painful one.. instead of have an extraction.
Root canal and another crown might mean I don’t need dentures or I just do dentures regardless of that tooth?

It’s all so expensive!! The crown yesterday cost £920!!!
