Bad gag reflex

Does reviving the gas at the dentist help calm the gag reflex? I have a bad case of it to where I cant even receive x rays .. i recently had my wisdom teeth out under iv sedation.. that was great .. but now I need some cavitys taken care of and im wondering if the gas helps ..any feedback would help
