Felt no pain till I went to the dentist.
He installed a temp bridge and there was mild pain with brushing
or touching but not enough to worry about ...so I thought.
5 Days ago, he put in the permanent bridge and I've had
non-stop pain since then. I can't eat on that side, I can't drink
hot or cold, hurts like crazy if I touch it and can't brush.

Dentist says to take local anti inflammatory and Advil for a week
and see if it settles.

I think he did something wrong because I've had bridges before
and there was no pain afterward.

What could be causing this and what is the solution to go back
to being pain free.

I think it's like a new shoe that doesn't fit properly in that the
crown must be pressing on a nerve.

:shame:

I want to be able to eat and the dentist said today that this may
be something I just have to live with forever.

I don't think so. There must be a solution. What should I ask him
to check for? The crown is attached to a tooth that had a root canal
so there shouldn't be any pain there. What's going on?????????
Help please.

You are not being unreasonable in wanting to be pain free and wanting to be able to eat!
As for having to live with this........what nonsense!
Go back to the dentist again - something is not right and he or she has to fix it for you.
Cheers

You want your bridge to be pain free of course. Sometimes a new restoration will be hypersensitive at first but it usually will quiet down after a few days or so. It seems in this case it hasn't. You might well need further treatment including root canal therapy to provide relief.
It is possible to perform treatment correctly and still end up with pain at the end because of unforeseeable conditions. I have no information as to the quality or correctness of your treatment though.
