Hello all, I recently got a non RCT crown on my back right molar that has been giving me hell for almost 3 months now. after 3 or 4 adjustment appointments, it finally feels like it "fits" (more or less) however for the past week or so I've had a mad, metallic/chemical taste coming from that area of my mouth. The side of my tongue that touches that area can taste it every so often or if i suck my cheek in. I should note that my crown is most likely porcelain (thats what the receipt says) not metal at all, and have a composite filling on the tooth above it that would occasionally grind on the crown before the final adjustment session. My anxiety is through the roof about what is wrong, causing me to lose my appetite and feel sick almost all the time. I'm mostly worried about whether it's an infection that will need a rct or an allergy to the porcelain that will cause me to go through this entire process all over again, or if its something simple like trapped food. I've tried waterpicking/flossing, brushing the side of my tongue, therabreath mouthwash, eveeything i can think of before i call the office. i plan on giving them a call later this week or early next week if it doesn't go away on its own but im losing my mind over it. does anyone have any advice or information or anything at all that can help me?

thank you for reading :)

also am wondering how long it will take for my crown to settle in fully? feels like i have food trapped in my gums but nothing helps

Never heard of allergy to porcelain, I don't think it is likely. Most obvious cause would be some cement trapped at the margin of the crown/tooth, it can be hard to spot when you're fitting the crown as the modern cements are a good colour match to the tooth structure. I don't think it's anything to lose sleep over.

Thank you so much for replying, but why would it be alright for 2-3 weeks and then show up out of nowhere?

It'd take a while for the reaction to build up to the overhanging cement. Apart from that I've really got no other guesses, there's only so much you can diagnose over the internet without getting hands on.

alright, makes sense. thank you so much, weight lifted off my shoulders! if it doesn't get better within a week or so, i'll make an appointment with my dentist

That sounds like a reasonable idea.

update, the taste went away

Great, thanks for the update.
