My endodontist just did a retreatment of the palatal root yesterday. She said she was going to leave some medicine in the tooth for a month before completing the retreatment.

I know it is normal to have the bleach taste the day of the treatment, but is it normal for it to keep occurring? I have this "film" that is gooey that keeps appearing around my tooth that was treates throughout the day. There is a white patch on the inside of my cheek opposite the tooth. The taste will fade, then get stronger.

The gums are pretty torn up around the tooth from the treatment. I gave a small flap above the tooth where the skin was torn that is super sore.

My endodontist's office is closed and she is out all next week.

So should I expect to taste this awful bleach stuff the whole month? Is it harmful if it is leaking?

When I had a reroot he left a medication (clove taste) in my tooth for two weeks! I did taste it in my moth for almost If the first week! So I think it’s normal? How was your gum cut up? Did she use a dental dam? Maybe it was the clip they used to hold it in place! Hope at least the gum is healing up for u hun xxx

She did use a dental dam, plus she had a terrible time finding a clamp that would fit, because my tooth was already ground down for the crown, and she took off the temp crown. My entire gum area around my tooth is pretty raw feeling from that and the shots.

The bleach taste is awful. I keep getting strong tastes of it every so often, like when I get a drink of water, it tastes like bleach. I have had the clove taste before, with my wisdom teeth (long ago when I had dry socket), and it isn't anything like that.

This morning a layer of skin around the temp crown has come off (all around my tooth) and is raw. It is like the skin is falling off. It is so sore. I did not have this the first time, but the medicine wasn't left in there.

Bleach is used to disinfect the root canals and hence why you can taste it afterwards.

Is it normal for it to take the skin off my gums around the tooth? I did not have this the first time. She said she was leaving the medicine in for a month this time. If this is going to fade and heal, then fine. I am just concerned that it seems to be leaking and "burning" my gums. I seriously cannot brush around the tooth at all.

Is there anything I can do to help alleviate the pain and promote healing? I have been rinsing with salt water.

It could do with being looked at, could you go to your general dentist for a wee look if your endodontist isn't available?

I can call and see. The skin is healing now, but I am worried that the medicine is no longer in there. If the temp crown is not completely sealed, wouldn't that defeat the purpose, since bacteria could get in?

Plus the tooth is still extremely tender, so unless they numb me again, I couldn't handle having the temp taken off and resealed.

Yes, if it's not sealed then fresh bacteria could get in.

That's what I thought. I called my dentist and she said I need to see the endodontist, because if it did break the seal, she would want to put the medicine back in. I will have to wait until next week, since she's out this week.
