Bleeding 8 days after wisdom teeth extraction

I posted this in another forum by accident so I'm posting it here because I meant to post here in the first place. I got my bottom two wisdom teeth removed 8 days ago and today when rinsing my mouth there was some blood in my spit. It wasn't a lot of blood, and I looked at the areas and i don't see any active bleeding but this really has me concerned. I've had slightly more pain the past 2 days but it still is a small amount of pain that doesn't require any painkillers. Ive been feeling some ear pain. I can't see my dentist for a few days and I won't be able to see the oral surgeon who did my surgery ever again, so I just don't know what's going on right now. I'm really afraid I have a dry socket since I can see holes where the teeth were extracted and I'm afraid I dislodged the clot. I know it's unlikely 8 days later but I can't help but worry. Any help would be appreciated thank you

Would you have done something that could have hit the healing site? I know that after the extraction of my molar I would sometimes have tiny amounts of blood if I would accidentally hit the healing site with my toothbrush or even some food. As long as the blood is a small quantity and stops quickly and that the pain doesn’t get worse you should be fine.

If you are still concerned, you might be able to see a different dentist who could answer your questions while your dentist is unavailable.

The holes are normal. I was told after my molar extractions not to worry about bleeding unless it was enough to need gauze to stop the bleeding (after 3 days). I was also told that it was normal to have increased pain 7 to 10 days after extraction. I had an increase of pain with my bottom molar extraction a week after.

I wouldn't worry about dry socket at this point. You would know if you had it. It isn't a pain that tylenol or advil can even touch. I had it with both lower wisdom teeth removal, and can still remember the pain 20 years later.

Maybe the blood clot from the socket has dislodged, causing a 'dry socket' this happen to me after having a molar out. I nipped back to the dentist and they put something into the socket to help it heal.

Not 8 days after the extraction, they usually show up within 48hrs and the pain is unmistakable. I'm told worse than childbirth but I've watched a couple of babies being born and it didn't look that bad to me!!!

Gordon, my dry socket appeared 7 days post extraction, and it wasn't sore in the slightest! I didn't even know I had one until the dentist told me!

The bleeding has stopped but now I'm having an aching in my ear and on the outside of my ear on the side the tooth was taken out. It's been 2 weeks tomorrow and I'm still in pain for some reason. I went to my dentist the other day (not the oral surgeon) And they said everything is fine. Is this a normal part of the healing process or is something wrong?

I'm sorry, but that sounds completely atypical of a dry socket. I guess you were either really lucky or really unlucky :-)
