I had four teeth extracted two days ago and I received few instructions from the dentist afterwards. All I was told was to rinse with salt water 24 hours after the surgery though they did not tell me how often to do it. I was told not to brush my teeth, but they did not tell me how long I wouldnt be able to wash them. I went online and was unable to find answers to these questions but I did fin an article about dry socket. I read from multiple sources that after an extraction, all sockets should be filed with clotted blood and no bone should be visible. If your bone is visible then yo will get dry socket. I went and looked at myself with a mirror and noticed that 3 of my extraction sites were uncovered and the bone was showing. Being a huge hypochondriac, I immediately freaked out and got a panic attack. My parents told me not to worry and did not allow me to call my dentist. Will I get dry socket? How should I care for my extraction sites?

Hi
Dont worry to much about dry socket. I have never had it but from what I hear you would know it if you had it as its very painful.
If you have a normal amount of pain ( you did have 4 teeth pulled) then you should be ok.

I have had absolutely no pain, not even the day of the surgery and have not needed to take medication for the pain. But, I read that pain from dry socket usually occurs 3-4 days after the extraction so I worry that I will soon be under extreme pain.

Hi Oliver.

It looks normal to me. I had all of my teeth (21) extracted a few months ago. I just got a bottom healing denture that I can wear a few days ago. I still have bone showing a little in a few places.

As far as saltwater. Dr told me to do it every hour, which is not possible. The more, the better, but at least a few times a day will help.

Good luck.
