Can a filling cause a sore throat ?

I went to the dentist yesterday for a silver filling, I woke up today with a sore throat which has got a bit worse through the day. I do remember when my filling was being done that I gargled a bit as I felt I couldn't breathe, a lot of the liquid was pooling in my throat. However, 2 people in my house have a cold and sore throat and have done for a while, so either this is due to the dentistry or the cold, I am stuck knowing which one.

So I just wondered if having as filling can cause a sore throat the next day ? It feels very dry and when I swallow it hurts, feels a bit like a burning pain.

Sore throat is fairly common for most dental procedures, especially when a local anesthetic was used. And the swelling caused from a sore throat can make it difficult to breathe and swallow. And, as you correctly stated, it could be the cold.

In any case, if it becomes incredibly difficult to breathe or swallow, talk to a professional! Otherwise, you should seen symptoms subsiding in a few days if it was caused by the dental procedure or a week to a few weeks if it was caused by the cold.

Thanks I am thinking it may be the dentist work as I remember when in the chair I found it hard to breathe as liquid was pooling in my throat so I ended up with gargling sounds. He told me I could swallow but I was always afraid to in case it made his hand jog. I am guessing maybe tooth bits or mercury could have been gargled in my throat ? I also didn't use any of that drinkable mouth wash stuff they have beside the chair after like I probably should have.
