Can I ask for Nitrous Oxide for Dental Cleaning (Gag Reflex)?

Is it possible to ask for nitrous oxide at my very first (dental cleaning) appointment with my new dentist? Is this something that needs to be requested before my appointment or can they do it it the day of? I have a SEVERE gag reflex and am very nervous! Thanks!

Sure you can ask, but you'll need to organise it in advance, there's a bit of extra time involved, the dentist may need to use a suitably qualified assistant so may have to change staff around etc.
