Can you reverse receding gums at home?

I've had mine for years, about 20 + years due to a cyst that comes and goes. It's never bothered me but it does the dentist who seems to want to do all sorts to improve the look of my tooth. Now it's playing on my mind all the time.

I just wanted to know if receading gums can grow back. Looking at internet it's a different answer every time.
I'm happy with my teeth but for some reason the dentist thinks I shouldn't be..
