I’m feeling very frightened at the mo. About 6 weeks ago I had a filling done under IV sedation for one of my
Bottom “first molars” the second one back after front teeth if that makes sense. Filling was done after the tooth cracked and a chunk came off. The dentist - who was wonderful - told me at the time it was a big filling, more than first thought and now the tooth is 3/4 filling in composite. The filling is across top of tooth and the whole side of the back of the tooth. Dentist was v clear that this might not work and may need root canal but felt it was worth trying filling first, even if this just gave me time to build up confidence.

It’s remained quite sensitive, but was checked and told was looking good.

Yesterday when flossing I realised that the cheek side of the tooth - a little bit near the bitting surface has chipped, meaning a tiny bit of tooth left between filling and actual tooth (I mean tiny).

I’m quite proud cos I booked an appt to have it checked tomorrow but the dentist that did it under sedation has now
Left :( I’m gutted cos he was really good with me. I’m basically terrified im
Going to be now told the tooth is done for, or will need a huge procedure I won’t cope with 😢 it took me
So long to get the tooth looked at and then get filled and now its gone wrong and im Really
Mentally struggling with thinking about the drill again 😢😢😢

The chip is tiny, it’s sensitive but no real pain. Will it need to come out now, or something big like a crown? Super scared

Nah, a tiny chip like that can get patched up easily with some more composite, I doubt it'll need any drilling.

Thank you very much Gordon

I went today and was seen by a very lovely dental therapist. She couldn’t see the chip I think is there - just said it was all fine. She did say she could smooth the filling down if it felt rough but it’s the side of the tooth that looks like a little bit - maybe the enamel layer has come off it. It’s only small, but there’s only a tiny bit of tooth on the outside of the filling left.

She said it’s all fine and nothing needs doing - so shall I just see if the sensitivity settles?

Thank you for answering before :)

Rub a bit of Sensitive tooth toothpaste on it at bedtime for a few nights. Last thing after brushing, just before you go to bed and leave it there.

@Gordon thank you so much for this advice. Sorry it’s taken me so long to say this - I got scared to check into forum. Really appreciate that you give your time like this. X
