Chlorhexidine causing more harm than good?

I am 5 weeks post crown on a cracked tooth. I have been back in twice because the gums around the tooth are red and irritated. Both times they said to use chlorhexidine, the first time to swish, second time dab on with a brush.

Could this stuff be impeding my healing? I do not feel like it's better at all. I feel like the gums above my crown have been sandpapered. I go in a Monday for a follow up. Of course they are closed for Thanksgiving. I seem to have increased pain when that happens because of anxiety.

Any tips, suggestions or good thoughts would be appreciated.

Went in for a meet up with the dentist today. Back to possible atypical facial pain or burning mouth syndrome. Meanwhile magic mouthwash, steroid pack and antibotics. Why can't things ever be easier for me?
