Choosing you’re dentist

When I went to dental chains, I was never able to pick my dentist. Now I go to a small privately owned practice with only 1 dentist so that eliminates the problem.

I go to a NHS dentist even though I been going to the same practice since my first baby tooth came through, it took me 11+ dentists to find the one I like, I had some pretty awful dentists at the practice in the past I go to.

Currently if my dentist is not available, I would see two others. I think now my current dentist in the owner (she owned it for 5 years now) she has a good team now.
Wow ? so quiet a trial and error that you had to go through to find the right one

Yes when I was a child,. I had the same dentist for 10+ years. she was known as the wicked witch of the west, because I needed baby teeth removed in dental hospital not due to decay but to make room for my adult teeth.

Most of the dentists I have moved onto different practices and go private instead of NHS, one of the dentists I had I only saw once. I been going to the same dental practice now 35 years, my mum and dad took me when my first tooth came through or maybe before me used to dentists (even though I am still scared)

Her current team there is only one dentist I will not see, she is too rough with the cleanings but good looking. still that does not help me

That scares me that I wouldn’t be able to get to pick my dentist ???

Hi mikey boy,

Good to read you are moving forward and keeping my fingers crossed for you to catch the right dentist as soon as possible.

Any practice who is willing to work with nervous patients will understand that it‘s all about trust and about chemistry and also that appearance can trigger so they should be happy to let you see a particular dentist if you wish so (unless it‘s a specialist who only does particular treatments). They should be also happy to allow you to see just this dentist for all your treatment (again if there is nothing you need a specialist for).

If a practice doesn‘t make this possible, they do not value personal approach much and you should keep on searching.

I know asking questions and making demands can be hard especially in the early stages of dealing with a new practice, but learning about how they work in advance and asking questions may prevent you from playing worst case scenarios in your head..

Have you scheduled already?
