Wow, I'm glad I found this forum. Just reading some of your stuff has really helped me. It's been five years since I last saw a dentist and I've been a master of putting them out of my mind. I've taken extremely poor care of my teeth and I'm finally starting to regret it.

Four weeks ago a chunk of tooth fell off my very front bottom tooth. It's at the botthom, at the gumline, and you can see gum where the tooth used to be. Since then bits have continued to fall out and now about a quarter of the tooth is gone. When it first fell off I could barely get out of bed for two days because I was shaking and felt like I would vomit. Since then I've been putting off a trip to the dentist but I finally plucked up the courage to find one last week and made an appointment for this Wednesday. However, since then it's the only thing I can think about. I'm really worried that the tooth will require extraction.

Hi TSP, Its normal to worry about the what ifs but maybe the dentist can save the tooth instead of extract it? I thought that my very front top tooth would need extracting as it too was coming out and crumbling and the thought of walking around with a gap in my smile was not what I wanted. turned out that I had a crown put on that tooth which may also be the case with you? We tend to worry about worse case scenarios but usually the visit itself is fine, its the days leading to the appointment that can be the very worse! I have an appointment with a hygienist in a few weeks time and as I havent seen one before I am worrying too, I have a great dentist and know he wouldnt send me to someone who would cause me more worry but it doesnt stop us from fearing the worse does it! I hope that your appointment goes well and you get the answers you want 8-) [smiley=grouphug.gif]

Thanks for the help guys.

I managed to keep the appointment and the dentist told me that it was just a lump of tartar. I felt like such a muppet :-/

Going back next week to see if any other work needs doing.
