Cracked plate

During my wisdom tooth extraction something called, I believe, my lingual plate, got cracked. I think it cracked pretty low down by the root of my tooth. The dentist said something about taking that piece out, like he didn't do it because it was too close to the nerve, but that he thought things would be OK.

My question is if this isn't OK, what would be the sign I should look out for that something was going wrong?

Worst case would be if the fractured bit of bone got rejected by your body and worked its way out. Not very common and actually not too bad, again worst case would be it annoyed your tongue and a dentist would need to remove it, which is a very simple process. It's pretty unlikely though.
 
@Gordon Thank you!!! That sounds so much less bad than I thought it could be.
 
It sounds a lot more serious than it is to be fair.
