Re: Chester, Cheshire

I live in Chester and desperately need a dentist that specialises in nervous patients after an allergic reaction at the dentists 6 years ago - unfortunately after a conversation with David Husbands practice manager I am unable to get help from this dentist as he will only accept private patients and as I am a single parent on a low income I have an NHS charges exemption certificate as I receive working tax credit and child tax credit I definitely cannot afford private care...............so I really am stuck............I was told just to ring around and find someone who is taking on new nhs patients but that hasnt helped me at all - it took all my courage to make contact with this dentist and now Ive had a knock back its really disheartened me, Ive already been to an NHS dentist that was competely unsympathetic so Ive no idea where to go from here - can anyone else recommend an NHS dentist in the Chester area who will be able to help??
Thanks

Re: Chester, Cheshire

Hi milly,
most of the recommendations in the UK are for private/mixed dentists because NHS regulations make it extremely difficult for dentists to provide the time and care needed to treat people with dental phobias.

You could check with your local PCT if the community dental service in your area covers adult phobic patients.

You would need a referral from either a general dental practitioner OR another health professional (e.g. a GP).

You could ring the Western Cheshire NHS Trust on freephone 0800 132 996 and ask if they can either recommend a phobic-friendly dentist who accepts adult NHS patients or if the Community Dental Service may be an option for you.

You could also try asking around friends, acquaintances, family or colleagues for recommendations - personal recommendations are usually the best way to go.

You could also contact your local CAB and see if they have suggestions and recommendations.

Wishing you the best of luck :grouphug:

Re: Chester, Cheshire

We have received a personal recommendation for Dave Husband:

"I have found David Husband of Oasis, Park St. Chester, excellent. I contacted him after a comment on this site. He is a genuinely 'good' guy. Very gentle and understanding, excellent at listening -good communication skills. I like his style, taking time and small reassuring steps. I dont need to use any hand signals as he seems to know when I need a break! He is still enthusiastic about his work. Can offer sedation if required. The staff have been very supportive of me. They went the extra mile to help me. If I hadn't found this practice (thanks to this site) I would perhaps have never returned to dental care."
