Hello,
I got my wisdom teeth removed going on 5 days ago now and I am still in quite a bit of pain. Most of my mouth has healed nicely and my swelling is practically gone. My face did swell a lot and now there is some bruising. The main problem I am having is in my lower left extraction site. This area is red and inflamed and comes with a consistent dull, throbbing pain. There are both good days and bad days with it. Today it is especially painful. It looks to me like the blood clots are still there so I don't think that it is a dry socket. Could the red, swollen spot be an infection or is it normal to still have this amount of pain on the fifth day? Has anyone else had a similar experience? Please help me! I hope to get back to a normal life someday...
Thanks so much!

Extra info.- All four teeth were impacted. This particular problem tooth was partially exposed (very, very slightly) and being prevented from growing in further (or correctly) because it was stuck on my jaw bone. My surgeon also said that this tooth had a very developed root that was almost to my bottom jaw bone. Could it be that this tooth was just extra difficult to extract, so it is causing me more healing problems?

Hi :welcome: to the forum.

I would contact you dentist and let them have a look. It may be infected but until they have a look they won't know. If you ring the dentist and explain what is happening they will either say it is normal or most likely tell you to go and see them to have a look. I would be expecting to be feeling a bit better by day 5:butterfly:

Let us know how you get on please :)

In the meantime you could try a cold pack held on your cheek where the pain is, if this doesn't help try warm. You could also alternate the warm and cold. Are you still using the salt water rinses, sometimes a cool rinse can be more soothing than a warm one. If it is infected heat can make it feel worse.
