Day after root canals... help!

How should I feel the day after root canals? I got one on each side and it was a lot of work and a stressful day yesterday but now today I’m still really sore. They said I could eat soft food but when I bite even on the softest of food extreme pain shoots up through my gums. I’m hoping this is just temporary but it’s bad. One side is worse than the other but they both are sore. I don’t want these to fail after the $4000 I paid to have them done. I get my permanent crowns in 3 weeks... ugh
