Hi everyone.
I have had a deep fear of dentists for as long as I can remember and went to pieces when they told me I’d need a deep clean after my last visit. The last two months I’ve been worried sick waiting for this but went today after reading lots of reassuring posts about deep cleans on here. So I wanted to share my experience today to hopefully help others.
I was in tears in the waiting room but the dentist and nurse were so lovely, let my husband come in with me and gave me a drink of water before starting. The dentist told me I could raise my hand to stop at any point. I was given local anaesthetic which I barely felt, no sharpness at all. I said to my husband later on that I was surprised she only did one injection but he said that she did several! Honestly didn’t feel them, must have been so shallow. The deep cleaning itself - I felt so silly for crying because I felt absolutely nothing! I was just so numb and felt like I could doze off at one point. I much preferred it to the usual scale and polish which I find really uncomfortable. So if you need this doing please be reassured by me that it’s fine and nothing like I expected. On to round two next week to get the left side done, no more tears next time I hope.

Oh thank you for sharing your experience! I have been so depressed over my gums lately and I know I’ll be told I’ll need a deep cleaning and I get so anxious I feel sick when thinking of it.

I really hope I have a similar experience when the time comes!

@Sarah1975 Hi. I just wondered if you have seen my last post in my thread in the dental and mental health section and what you think about it?. I'm glad your appointment well

@honeybee91 I just wondered if you have seen my post too and what you think about it?.

Honeybee - please don’t worry. I had the other side done last week and again I felt nothing, could have dozed off actually! I was so surprised. Very numb for about 4 hrs afterwards but I don’t mind that. Didn’t get any antibiotics, gums were a little tender for a couple of days when brushing but nothing major. Anonfemale - I will see if I can find your post xx

@honeybee91 tagging you just in case you can’t see my reply to you without tagging x
