Ive never had a deep cleaning and dont know what to expect so im a bit nervous. I have part 2 next Tuesday and will need fillings as well. Any tips on how to get through it?

A deep cleaning doesn't feel much different than a regular cleaning. The difference is that numbing is used (or at least it was for me, I think it is standard practice) and they use the tools to clean below your gumline. Then the tooth will be smoothed out so your gums have a clean surface to adhere to so that they will be healthy and strong. All of this sounds worse than it is. Afterwards you might have a little discomfort but nothing major. I had my full mouth deep cleaning done at once in a 4.5 hour sedation appointment. When I got home I took otc pain medicine and a few hours later, I ate a cheeseburger and fries. It all went much better than I expected :)

Jatay,

I had my first deep cleaning last year myself and had worked myself into a fret before watching youtube videos.. I emailed and said I wanted to cancel but they encouraged me. I went in and couldn't believe how smooth it went. My dentist numbed me up and my hygenist did the scaling and there was maybe 3 seconds of slight discomfort and she gave me more numbing and I was fine the rest of time, and as Animal house said I had very minimal discomfort after it was hardly any. and my teeth really did feel ultimately better after it.. Make sure they numb you as much as you need it and tell them your fears and anxieties about it and they will help you through! Let us know how it goes!
